Osman’s practice covers all areas of intellectual property with an emphasis on patent drafting and prosecution. Similarly, Osman’s patent interests cover a spectrum of subject matter ranging from simple engineering to high technology, telecommunications and information technology, and materials science. His practice has further included trademark application preparation and prosecution, intellectual property licensing and assignment agreements, patentability, infringement and freedom-to-operate opinions, franchise agreements, and select corporate/commercial services. Osman has also supported clients on contentious matters involving patent or trademark disputes. Osman is passionate about working with startups, SMEs and large entities in assisting them with their intellectual property needs.
After obtaining his degree in Chemical Physics from the University of Waterloo, Osman went on to study law at the University of Leicester in the UK. Upon returning to Canada, he advanced his legal studies at Osgoode Hall Law School, where he earned a Master of Laws, specializing in intellectual property and corporate/commercial law. Prior to joining Own Innovation, Osman worked in IP boutiques in Toronto and Ottawa, and in a global legal software company.
