Akiv Jhirad is an Intellectual Property Lawyer with experience in IP strategy, IP financing, and patent prosecution. Prior to being called to the Ontario Bar, Akiv articled at a leading Canadin IP firm in Toronto, where he worked on patent prosecution, IP transactions, and digital asset licensing. He has experience with international insurance conducting due diligence on global IP portfolios and advising on using IP as collateral in debt financing.
Akiv holds a Juris Doctor from Western University and both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Electrical and Biomedical Engineering from McMaster University. Before his legal career, he co-founded a medical device company that focused on developing a handheld device for brain injury detection. In addition, his Master’s thesis was centered around the development of an electrical stimulation device for mitigating bone loss. Akiv’s technical expertise spans electrical hardware, AI/ML, medical devices, and blockchain technology.
